“When Runners Are Out” (NCAA rule 8-5-a)
MLB rule 7.08(a)(1) [pdf] doesn’t contain the “left or right” language.
In my day, if the catcher had the plate blocked there were only two options: take the out or slam the poor bastard so hard he dropped the ball. No gymnastics allowed.

Apparently we’re not so much mad that McGwire used steroids for all those years—because anyone paying attention already knew that—we’re mad that he finally told the truth about it.
Mark McGwire deserves a ban from baseball more than any sympathy.
I tend to disagree, but an understandable opinion.
If McGwire’s admissions can serve any good now, it would be to prompt other steroid users to come clean. Confession is not only good for the soul, it would be very good for the game to get it all out now, once and for all.
Wait. What?
Maybe I’m missing something, but I’m pretty sure “Ban McGwire from baseball” and “prompt other steriods users to come clean” are mutually incompatible.
